Canberra Diwali Mela 2019 – Sun 20 Oct

Diwali is a festival of lights celebrated by most cultures in Canberra. Canberra Diwali Mela 2019 is expecting the attendance of over 5000-6000 people. The Festival will offer continuous entertainment with over six hours of performances. You’re invited to join this celebration of multiculturalism that offers fun, food and the opportunity to learn and share from other cultures and to get involved. Pink Ribbon Day High Tea at Burbury Hotel – Sun 20 Oct

DOMA Hotels is transforming their popular Burbury Terrace High Tea into a pink soirée, in support of Pink Ribbon Day. 10 per cent of all proceeds from the High Tea will be donated to the initiative, aimed at raising awareness of breast and gynaecological cancers, as well as raising funds for prevention programs, support services and vital cancer research. ARF 2020 Calendar Launch at Walt & Burley – Sun 20 Oct

Come along to Walt & Burley from 11.30am – 2.30pm to celebrate the launch of the 2020 ARF Calendar! ARF (ACT Rescue and Foster) is a fantastic association who rescue dogs from euthanasia and foster them temporarily while they find their ‘furever’ home. Larry Appley from Mix 106.3 will be launching the calendar. There will also be a Doggie Bar serving up treats for if you would like to bring your pooch along on Sunday, as well as range of ARF dogs – either available for adoption or recently successful re-homed. Walt & Burley has donated hundreds of dollars towards ARF through our local karma kegs promotion earlier this year. We are proud to be hosting the launch of ARF’s 2020 Calendar.

Story Time at National Library of Australia – All Weekend

Story Time: Australian Children’s Literature is an exhibition of much-loved children’s books from the colonial period through to the present day that will appeal to anyone who has experienced the magic of stories. This exhibition will reacquaint you with old friends and introduce you to new ones. It will take you on a nostalgic tour through childhood, looking at the works of great Australian authors and illustrators including Bronwyn Bancroft, Mem Fox, May Gibbs, Bob Graham, Emily Rodda, Ivan Southall, Shaun Tan and Ethel Turner. A must-see exhibition, Story Time explores the rich history of Australian children’s literature and takes you on a journey across time and place—real and imagined. Families can also have fun in the dedicated kids section, Playtime. Presented in association with the National Centre for Australian Children’s Literature.
