Casual chic is a way of dressing casually with a touch of fashion that puts you a notch up from boring.
It’s easy to rise above what I call “sub casual,” which includes pieces like thongs, ill-fitting jeans, and oversize t-shirts, cardigans and jumpers. It’s mostly a matter of fit. If you wear pieces that fit you properly they will flatter your body and make you feel amazing! Make sure you take the time to pick out your size, remember that if the style of a shirt is meant to be loose fitting it will be made that way in your size, so no need to buy a few sizes bigger or even smaller…it just doesn’t look right!
Look around and take the time to try on clothes, especially pants and jeans. They come in many styles and cuts so you need to find the right one that fits your unique shape. Look for nicer shoes like polished boots and ballet flats to finish the look.
In addition to perfecting your causal outfit you want to add an extra touch of fashion that sets your outfit apart. You want to look like you put some care into what you chose to wear. Often adding just one of these elements will make the difference, but of course you can add more.
Here are my tips to gain that Casual Chic factor.
Bling
Adding some bling to your outfit such as studs, sequins, bright gold, rose gold or silver jewels is all the craze at the moment and especially with this trend. These bold but not over the top touches to your shoes, jacket, jewellery or handbag are the statement to this look and really help make it adding character and personality depending on which kind you go for.
Colour
Colour blocking is perfect for this trend, you will never look dull and with time and care your wicked sense of style will really show.
Bold Sunglasses
You can never go wrong with a pair of trendy sunglasses to polish of your look. I personally love neutral colours for everyday such as black, brown and nude and then colourful fun ones for weekends.
Oversized Handbag
I think you should match your handbag as best you can to your outfit and use it as the statement piece. The best part about them is that there are a million different colours, shapes, sizes, patterns and brands that you can really never go wrong.
Scarf
A scarf whether it be light weight and thin or a big chunky knit adds layers to your outfit creating texture and style (and warmth during winter). If you are wearing an outfit of mostly neutral colours add a colourful scarf or if you are wearing brights throw on a black scarf to finish off the look.
