When I am eating out I want every possible convenience – food brought to me, someone else making complicated drinks and, of course, to be comfortable. Not all restaurants cater to all needs but luckily many Canberra restaurants and cafés are pretty considerate. This week I have been researching those that cater to the wheelchair bound.

Provini is new and Italian. The venue itself is evocative of the food, deep red carpet as rich as their Bolognese sauce and pale walls bathed in warm yellow light for an intimate evening with great food.

Belluci’s in Woden; more Italian and honestly you can never have enough of it. Especially the creamy desserts that you absolutely must have after your wonder filled pasta and or pizza.

Olive in Mawson is award winning Mediterranean food from one family to many and they know how to make some awesome things out of the simplest ingredients such as bread, feta and lemon.

Canberra Labor Clubs are great for a drink after work or to start off a good night out. Whatever your preference, calling a couple of friends to join you is a must.

The Vikings Clubs are family venues with classic meals from the bistro. The familiar setting of the Viking group can be found in several places around Canberra including Erindale and Chisholm.

Temporada is an Instagram dream, despite the changing menu they always serve something that pops on social media. Enjoy it’s Moore Street location where the team serves inspiring food and drinks all day during the week and on Saturday nights.

Black Pepper. Fine, fancy plates are coming the way of patrons for breakfast and lunch at this Belconnen restaurant. Personally, I’m interested in trying the Green Eggs and Ham!

Chalisa Indian Restaurant. If you’re interested in trying Indian food (but India is a little too far and a little too expensive!) this is the place to eat the food without having to travel out of Canberra.

Museum of Australian Democracy café. After a few hours at MoAD you’ll need to stop by the courtyard café. Mix up the day with a high tea if you’re there during the summer.

The Conservatory Restaurant looks out across Canberra, the view is as intense as the amazing seasonal food that comes out of the kitchen. When you’re done, check out the Bonsai gallery.

Capitol Bar and Grill. This is just one element of the amazing QT Hotel experience and a place to start with a good meal. Steak and antipasto sounds great to me, but the desserts have to be seen to be believed.

And here’s some more:

Canberra has long been at the forefront of ensuring that ground floor restaurants and cafes remain accessible to everyone. It’s great that we can all enjoy Canberra’s extraordinary dining scene.
