Have you (or someone in your family) ever dreamed of being a chef? If so, it’s time to take the step out of the kitchen and onto the stage for the 2015 edition of Teen Chefs.
You’ve only got one more week to decide to enter!
Hosted by Belconnen Fresh Food Markets and sponsored by The Good Guys and OutInCanberra, Ten Chefs puts school students from Years 9 through to 12 through their paces to discover who will be Canberra’s best.
This is the eighth year of the competition, and the rules remain the same. In groups of four, Teen Chefs requires students to work together and create the most delicious and enticing three-course meal. Each team must use fresh produce from within the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets, and must stick to a strict budget of $60.00.
The competition aims to get students thinking about fresh and seasonal produce and how they can creatively incorporate it into bold and colourful meals. Students are judged by a specialised judging panel, (including OutInCanberra’s own foodie, Nic Crowther).
As part of the competition, finalists are taken on a special tour through the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets, where explanations are given on the different types of meat, poultry, fish and seasonal fruit and vegetables, and where it’s farmed and grown.
Not only does Teen Chefs inspire budding chefs in the community, it promotes living a healthy lifestyle. The range of activities throughout the competition utilise an array of skills essential to succeed in the food industry. The Teen Chefs competition is a definite ‘must-do’ for any student interested in the culinary world.
Don’t forget entries close on Monday 24 August. All details, rules and guidelines can be found on the Teen Chefs website – www.teenchefs.com.au.
