The 70s have made a comeback in huge way this season. From flared jeans and shift dresses, to lace and great prints, it’s like we have stepped back in time. There is 100 reasons why this is one of my favourite trends, but obviously I can’t share all of them.

The first is definitely the flared jean. They are the perfect way to add height if you are short. Flares create height two ways: with the long hem line (teamed with a great pair of wedges). The trick is to go for a longer length so the hem line just skims the floor over your shoes. The second is the high waist. By tucking your top into your jean, it will instantly give the illusion of extra-long legs. Perfect if you are an hourglass. Opt for a distressed look to give that real 70s vibe.

My pick for ‘high end’ flares are the Nobody retailing for $219.00. For something more budget-conscious, my pick for ‘high street’ flares are Lee Cooper from Big W retailing for $35.00.

Across the range of lace, shift, and long printed dresses, there is a dress for every body shape and age. Take the shift dress it is perfect if you are an apple as it will highlight your great legs. If you are in the older demographic, you might want to opt for a longer shift dress that finishes just above knee.

If you’re pear shape it’s the season for you in the way of dresses. Most of the 70s-inspired dress chinch in at the waist and are long and flowing. These skim over the hips and showing off the smallest part of your waist and will make you look at least two sizes smaller. A versatile choice, you can team them with wedges, gladiator sandals or a pair of strappy heels when hitting the town. Remember: it’s the print and colours that gives it that 70s look.

If you are petite, invest in some wedges and printed flares – this will create bulk and height. The printed flares are also great if you are an inverted triangle ( meaning your shoulders are bigger than your hips). They will create the perfect balance. A useful addition is to opt for a ruffled blouse or dress – this will help balance your hips.

My pick for shopping 70s – Bardot, Zara and Seed.

Accessories are a huge part of finishing your 70s look. Choose from hot trends including wedges and gladiator sandals, feathered neck pieces, fringe handbags and floppy hats. It’s a great way to ‘TREND’ dress, without looking that you have stepped back in time and a great to complete your look.

Finally, don’t be shy to invest in your accessories as the 70s will be here for next Autumn/Winter too.

PEACE!
