Summer is finally here! Hooray!

As usual, there’s a stack of stuff on this weekend. We’ve got everything from lakeside boozing to big beats at ‘A-cadz’.

1. Scrambled for La De Da’s birthday, Belconnen
Friday from 8.00pm.

La De Da is the cultural hub of Belconnen, It’s difficult to overestimate the importance of Aaron Ridler’s contribution o the creative community of Canberra over the years.

To celebrate the La De Da’s third birthday, the team is throwing a massive party, Scrambled, from 5.00pm this afternoon. There’s be DJ’s, artwork, fashion displays, storytelling and everything else everything you can imagine. This will be massive.

2. Oliver Heldens & Jack Beats at Academy Nightclub
Saturday from 11.30am – 12.30pm.

There’s been some amazing footage out of Stereosonic, the first of the big festivals for summer (iPhone-wallet-guy has to be seen to be believed), but tonight we’ll be treated to our very own sideshow.

Head down to Academy to experience the amazing sounds of Oliver Heidens and Jack Beats for a night of Tech and Deep House. Tickets are $27.50 from Moshtix.

3. Sunday by the Lake at Lennox Gardens.
Sunday from 11.00am

Down by the lake this Sunday Snowy Hydro Southcare is putting together a wonderful day to raise money for their life-saving activities.

For $90.00 per person, you can enjoy music, entertainment and a delicious buffet courtesy of the Hyatt Hotel… and these guys know how to put on a feast!

Last year’s debut event was a massive success, and this year promises to be even better. So, eating and drinking for chairy? What could be better than that?

4. Tropfest at Stage 88
Sunday from 6.00pm

There’s no doubt this is now one of the biggest film events in the world. Not only do hundreds of thousands of Australians head to parks across the nations for a fun night of short film, there are international editions in Malaysia, the USA, Dubai and (soon) Tokyo.

Join film buffs and dedicated picnickers on the lawns of Stage 88 for plenty of laughs and great stories from Australia’s up-and-coming filmmakers.

5. Akiba opening at ACTEW AGL Building
Monday from 6.00pm.

Okay, not quite the weekend, but this is going to be huge given how much hype there is around the city’s latest restaurant. Akiba promises a fun-filled-fusion of delicious Asian delights in the refurbished space at the bottom of The ACTEWAGL Building on the corner of Bunda and Mort Streets.
