This Saturday 3rd August a collection of kick-ass ladies will take to the stage as part of the Miss Adventures Tour. Miss Adventures, who have toured with Motley Crue and KISS (among many, many others). We sat down with Sherree and Kylie to see what they thought of coming to Canberra and what fans can expect on Friday night.
Q1. It’s Canberra’s 100th Birthday this year. How would you party with Skywhale?
Oh, WOW! I had to look up what this was… Celebrate with Skywhale? Hmmmm. I think moreover how we could use it in some outdoor music festival? Maybe spraying an infusion of Stolichnaya from each of its terrifyingly huge nipples? Sounds like an ultimate music experience that many would line up for!
Q2. What’s your most regrettable music purchase?
Sherree: A music interface for Kylie to connect to her computer to record her ideas. The phone and the iPad work heaps better and quicker for her.
Kylie (in response): I never got past the first download and challenge any novice to record on this demented device that is programed to confuse the most musical of brains. One might also mention the 50 meter Multicore that Sherree decided we needed that weighs two tonnes and hasn’t seen the light of day – let alone any sort of outdoor gig.
Q3. What’s the best song to sing in the shower?
That’s a good question. The shower isn’t really a place where I sing. If I was to choose a track to change my routine to become a shower singer I would polish up my chops on “Hocus Pocus” by Focus, because it goes a bit longer than the average tune (6.5mins) which is about the right length of time to do what needs to be done.
Q4. If you could sit under the table and listen to any two people speak, who would it be?
Sherree: Holy crap… really? How about Dennis Rodman and Kim Jong Un… I mean seriously, this guy is putting his hand up for a Nobel Peace Prize…A) how did he get there.. B) WTF and c) WTF..?! I really don’t understand one bit. I guess it helps to get his Twitter account running…
Q5. You’ve toured with some big names. Who’s goes hardest? Tommy Lee or Gene Simmons?
I’m sorry to the Crue fans but I must say that it’s Gene Simmons… This guy just doesn’t stop… he is always talking to someone… whether it’s a fan, a business opportunity, his management. Tommy Lee was nowhere to be seen (much like his bandmates with the exception of Nikki Sixx) yet wherever we looked… KISS (or more-so Gene) was out-and-about carrying on like a crazy uncle. He lost me in conversation several times…
Q6. Which band (other than Bellusira!) do you dream of sharing the stage with?
A. We’ve been lucky enough so far with KISS, Motley Crue, Thin Lizzy and Aerosmith… I wonder how it could get any better! The Foo Fighters, The Living End, The Rolling Stones… even ACDC would blow our hair back! Not to say we haven’t already had such a great time… but a girl does like to have more 😉
Q7. What’s the most bizarre thing to happen while you were onstage?
There are way too many… I had punters steal my drink from my feet and stand there in front drinking it while I’m performing… I’ve had a musical malfunction where the clip to my wireless pack hasn’t been secure and fell off and a punter wide eyed saw it… grabbed it an ran out of the venue.. The most extreme was where Kylie was electrocuted while on stage. Her amp head stopped working so she reached behind it to see what was happening cause there was no sound and her finger touched the fuse. Seriously it was like one of those cartoons where your hair stands on end and you see an X-ray. Terrified, I ran over to push her out the way and that was that! Her teeth chattered she took a deep breath and the show went on. It was the fastest way ever she’d had the pleasure of making an Bacardi Breezer evaporate!
Q8. What are the main themes of the new album, Like it Too Much?
There is a lot of fun to be had on our album, (such as “Higher” and the title track, “Like it Too Much”) and we love to take the piss (“Diva Disease” and “Bitch”) but when we do get serious, we reveal vulnerability that goes beyond the obvious girly confidence. (“Together” & “Strange” being examples of this) Thematically the lyrics reflect life as Rock Goddesses, a twist of fun, lots of good times, a little bit of mystery combined with a memorable hangover only a hair of the dog will fix.
Q9. What’s the most kickass piece of stagewear you own?
My black Demonia Buckle boots – my all time favourite shoes that have seen me through half the world of performances and walked, yes… thousands of miles. These boots r gonna walk all over you… but only if you want me to (*wink*!).
Q10. What can we expect on Saturday 3 August at ANU Bar?
Well you can expect us to rock out and to sound like our album for starters. It could be that we will impress you with our full bodied, Aussie pub-rock signature sound, but mostly we’re planning that some of our melodies will enter your brain like an ear worm and that you will be humming our catchy tunes for days later. Kylie will tell a few crazy yarns, I”ll shred a few cool guitar riffs and Zac will sit behind us on drums and follow our every accent and nuance with his usual cool demeanour, like its no effort at all.
