2. Hippo Co

If you haven’t been to Hippo Co yet, where have you been for the past 17 years? Hippo Co is the home of Wednesday jazz in the city. From 8:30pm, find your way upstairs to the lodge style bar, decorated with a beautiful wood bar and exposed brickwork. You’ll feel like you’ve been transported to another country as you listen to soulful performances in this intimate setting.

3. Tilleys Devine Cafe Gallery

We couldn’t make a listicle about live music without including Tilley’s Devine Cafe Gallery. With décor straight out of a Hollywood film noir, the elegant dark timber fittings and plush booths have served as the perfect canvas for some of the most exceptional music from both Australian and international artists. Order yourself a cocktail at the bar and sink into one of those aforementioned booths as you wile away the evening listening to live jazz from 6pm on Friday nights and 7pm on Saturday nights.

4. Smith’s Alternative

Curated by legendary local bassist and ANU School of Music lecturer, Brendan Clarke, Jazz at Smith’s runs every Thursday night from 7-9pm. Soak up the eclectic vibe of Smith’s as you enjoy the spectrum of jazz ‘flavours’ on showcase.

5. The Old Canberra Inn

In addition to their spectacular weekend lineups, come listen to live jazz every Wednesday from 6:30pm while you enjoy a heart pub meal and their regular rotation of craft beers on tap.

6. Fenway Public House
