When I set out on my quest to find Canberra’s best steaks, I never imagined that I would still be able to find a quality steak for under eight dollars. So when I went to the Civic Labour Club and walked away with a smear of gravy on my shirt and the smile of a contented meat-eater, I didn’t think I would see that kind of affordability again. Oh, how little did I know!

Well, the calorie count is up, my waistline is expanding and the chase for steak continues. So far I’ve had two culinary experiences that have sent the taste buds into overdrive and left me a little shaken at the thought of having to go even a couple of days without a steak!

I admit ‘Mooseheads’ and ‘lunch’ is not a connection I would have made on my own. But after visiting ‘The Moose’ for a midday feed, they will be two words forever linked.

It’s safe to say everyone’s been to The Moose for a beer and to dance the night away at some stage. Hell, The Moose is a Canberra icon and institution! People come from far and wide to say they have visited The Moose.

Well ladies and gentleman, last week’s debut into the steak world (with a visit to El Dorado’s), set my taste buds alight and only inflamed my appetite and yearning for red meat. So this week I decided to go on a road trip in my chase for steak.

My steak quest took me on a different path this week as I headed for Canberra’s City Labor Club.

Now I’ve been to plenty of licensed clubs around the country in my time and I know they’re synonymous with pokies, cigarettes and overcooked schnitzels with chips from the bain marie. So, truth be known, I was a little reserved about what it might serve up.

But I can tell you now I was pleasantly surprised!
