Hellenic Club

Until I visited the Hellenic Club in the city on Moore Street in Civic last week, I’d yet to form a concrete opinion on clubs. Something I always associated with an older greyer generation and cigarette smoke, I now realise exactly what’s been missing from my social life. Fresh clean decor, comfortable seating, alfresco dining options, big screens showcasing a variety of entertainment on just about every wall, extensive bar, prices so reasonable I almost exclaimed with disbelief and a separate gambling area also makes things conveniently family friendly if necessary.

Australia Celebrates Live 2013

The countdown has begun for the 2013 Australia Celebrates Live concert, a free event held on Friday 25 January on the lawns of Parliament House.

This year’s concert will be hosted by James Mathison of Australian Idol fame and Kate Ritchie, a familiar face on Australian TV due to her roles in Home and Away and Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities. The lineup features some of Australia’s finest music talent including Jimmy Barnes, Guy Sebastian, The Presets and Timomatic.

Like Canberra, vote now!

From Monday 14th January until Thursday 14th February, people can vote on the top 100 things to like about Canberra as identified in the Like Canberra Centenary of Canberra local engagement campaign.

Since the campaign launched in October, people visiting the Like Canberra website nominated 13,741 reasons why they like Canberra. Reasons ranged from the trees and the Brindabellas, to the fact that supermarkets close at midnight to the Humans vs. Zombies in Haig Park.

Australia Day in the Park

On Australia Day, it is all happening in Commonwealth Park for the whole family!

Australia Day in the Park kicks off at 7.30am with the Great Aussie Day Breakfast, proudly sponsored by ActewAGL and the Fyshwick Fresh Fruit Markets.

Families can enjoy the Children’s Concert, featuring free entertainment with Peppa Pig and Los Chavos. The kids can enjoy rides, face painting and arts and craft.
