This weekend sees the running of the 41st running of the Seppelt Black Opal Stakes at Thoroughbred Park – and Canberra has a long weekend to celebrate! We’ve put together the definitive guide for Canberra’s biggest racing meet with everything you need to prepare yourself for a day at the track.

The Racing
On Sunday, the gates open at 11.30am for those keen to get in and secure the best spot from which to watch the day’s racing. There will be a full program of eight races with the first due to jump around 1.00pm.

“Where were you???”

That was a question asked by almost everyone that attended FashFest in 2013. On the first night—a Wednesday—the crowd was curious. Canberra’s got its own fashion festival? In a construction zone???

By the second night the bar was busy as the crowd filed in, after posing in front of the media wall for a quick photo. The seats were full and the fashionistas waited as the anticipation grew as SAFIA played a killer intro set.

Canberra is about to welcome a fun and fabulous new fitness trend complete with shaky arms and sweaty palms… Well, at least that’s how we welcomed it after hitting the barre for a VIP preview of the celebrity-obsessed workout, Xtend Barre, last week!

Xtend Barre, for those who haven’t heard of it, is a fast-paced fusion of ballet, pilates and cardio. The workouts last for approximately 55 minutes, are centered around a ballet barre and also requires light weights.
