Canberra Artist Designs for the Gods

Canberra artist and Craft ACT member Monique van Nieuwland will have her collection of cloth shawls, cloaks and tunics feature in the new Hollywood blockbuster Gods of Eqypt.

Featuring Geoffrey Rush and Benton Thwaites, Gods of Egypt is set to launch in Canberra next week.

To celebrate the launch, Craft ACT and Dendy Cinema’s are teaming up for a special screening of Gods of Egypt followed by a Q & A session with Monique herself and Genevieve Jacobs of ABC 666.

Bienvenue et French Film Festival 2016

Last night marked the launch of the 27th annual Alliance Française French Film Festival presented by Peugeot. When guests entered Palace Electric Cinemas they were transported to France with beautifully-themed hors d’oeuvres and delightfully fruity French wine.

As the doors of Cinema Four opened I wasn’t sure what to expect and felt that somehow my Year 11 French skills wouldn’t make the cut. Oh, well… C’est la vie! Soon, we were welcomed by the head of Alliance Française, and settled in for the premiere screening of Microbe & Gasoline.

The HeartKids HillClimb Fundraiser

This Sunday, 45 race car drivers will peel their way at super high speeds around the sealed, 1-km tarmac race track at Fairbairn. They won’t be just competing to win in an exciting time trial. They’ll be raising funds for the annual HeartKids Hillclimb event.

HeartKids Hillclimb is run by local photographer Daniel Cummins in honour of his little brother, Will, who would have been 28 years of age this year. But Will passed away at age 12, after the heart defect he had since birth became too much for his body to take.
