Lay back like Snoop Dogg and sip on some gin and juice as Canberrans unite to celebrate the heaven that is juniper berry juice – affectionately known as gin.

World Gin Day takes place this Saturday, June 10, and will be celebrated internationally. Events close to home include Muse Canberra’s Four-Course Gin Dinner and Jim Murphy’s Market Cellar’s World Gin Day Tasting 2017.

We have scouted out Canberra’s top spots to get a gin fix that will expand your horizons past the ‘tanqueray and chronic’.

Tipsy Bull

With a focus on Applewood Distillery Gin this weekend, Tipsy Bull is your one-stop shop for all things gin. Tipsy Bull is still the new kid on the block in Braddon, gaining popularity for its DIY deconstructed G&Ts, allowing locals to mix their gin just the way they like it. The extensive gin selection will impress any connoisseur as the friendly staff mix up cocktails such as the Tipsy 75, Bramble, or Corpse Reviver No2.

Molly

Canberra’s ‘real’ speakeasy is hard to find but will easily impress as you sit down in a cosy booth or at a high bar to enjoy classic gin creations. With a menu as secretive as the location, explore hidden corners of the city as you venture down to Molly and choose a finely crafted beverage from its in-house menu.

Buvette Bistro & Wine Bar

Prefer a touch of class and elegance with your gin? Buvette is the spot for you! Boasting a carefully selected range of international gins, the bartenders are able to create delicate cocktails that never fail to please the crowd. I would recommend the Dry Smack Fizzle for the adventurous drinker, or the La Resistance 42 for a refreshing afternoon wind-down.

Hippo Co

Perched above Garema Place, enjoy the humble and warm surroundings of Hippo Co as you sip away at your gin and juice. Each bartender’s commitment to their craft is clear as they mix, stir, swizzle and shake whatever gin concoction your heart desires. My go to is the Classic Barrel Aged Negroni.

AKIBA

Pumping music, delicious morsels and bubbly staff, AKIBA is everything you want to accompany vibrant drinks and late nights. The talented bar staff are more than able to recommend or surprise you with a love-laden gin cocktail. Weekly specials always keep the crowds coming back, as does one of my all-time gin favourites, the Clover Club.

Bar Rochford

This light-filled and airy space has proven an absolute hit as Canberrans keep coming back for more and more. The passion of the staff shines through as the food and drinks are delivered with genuine heart. The strong focus on hospitality is reflected in none other than its classic Negroni – an all-time favourite in this scene.

 Zaab

Fresh, fast and exciting, the bartenders here will whip up the most photogenic drinks Lonsdale Street has to offer. Made and served with enormous flair, cocktails such as the Eastside Duo and Thyme Negroni will quench even the most unquenchable of gin thirsts.
